Gastronomic Museum

Euskal Herria takes pride in its cuisine, so it was just a matter of time for a museum to house its gastronomy's wealth. This article comes to us via EITb:

The Basque Museum of Gastronomy

The rooms contain kitchens from different periods and models of machines designed to improve food preparation. The Museum is also the headquarters of the Basque Academy of Gastronomy.

Located at the very heart of the small town of Llodio, in Alava, on the banks of River Nervión, the Basque Museum of Gastronomy is housed in Zubiko Etxea, a stately three-storey building with a large garden area.

The Museum aims to show a representative range of different culinary spheres, both domestic and professional. The rooms contain kitchens from different periods and models of machines designed to improve food preparation. Next to the machines are the food handlers, i.e. chefs, confectioners and waiters, dressed in typical costume. On a more individual level, the most important Basque chefs are represented, along with the gastronomic societies and the peculiar phenomenon of the gastronomic guilds. The Museum also has a library-conference room, which houses a specific collection of gastronomic texts and also contains an exceptional collection of restaurant menus from all over the world.
