A bit of humor at the expense of the Basques.

Archeologist Discover Basque People are Alien Rejects

Barcelona, Spain (IP) - Archaelogist Dr. Faqian EcheZaballa (DR. EZ) has found conclusive evidence that the Basque people who occupy an area between France and Spain were definitely thrown out of an alien flying saucer thousands of years ago.

He explained that the Basque language has no relationship to any other earthly language and that Basques are far too independent and hard headed to have European roots. Also the acronym E.T.A. originally stood for Extra Terrestial Alien and it is unfortunate that the current day ETA has given the Basque people a black eye (ojo negro) through their violent activities.

Another indicator of his theory is the Basque's uncanny ability to navigate which led them further and further from the coastal waters of Spain and into the North Atlantic waters where they successfully caught Cod and developed preservation technology via salting methods. Dr. EZ speculates that the Basques found the fishing grounds before landing on earth by looking out of the windows of their host's ship.

At some point the Basques wore out their welcome with their host because of their ornery and stubborn ways and were forced out in the Pyrenees mountains where their hosts mistakenly thought that the Basques would remain landlocked. Eventually the Basques found a narrow passage in and out of the mountains. The passage was so narrow that would-be Moors invaders in the eight century could only enter single file and could easily be destroyed as they tried to enter the Basque stronghold. The Basques were also fierce capitalists and that is in sharp contrast (with all due respect says DR. EZ) to other Europeans who seem to favor more socialist philosophies.
