Civil guard agents close down outlawed Batasuna's office and bar
Civil guard agents closed down the office and bar the outlawed Batasuna party owns in the Basque town of Zamudio, close to Bilbao city, on Friday. Some protesters in the place carried a banner reading, "Repression is not the way. Democracy for the Basque Country," when the closing down took place at 10:00am.
The closure of the facilities, ordered by the Spanish High Court judge Fernando Grande-Marlaska, was carried out by four patrol cars. A banner reading "This is your peace" was also present in the place.
Basque Govt spokeswoman thinks Batasuna should be legalized
The spokeswoman for the Basque Government, Miren Azkarate, thinks that Batasuna should be legalised or its presence at the multi-parties' dialogue table should be ensured. Furthermore, she has pointed out that it's "very difficult" to handle the new times "using past judicial tools" and that the frame should be changed urgently.
In an interview for the Basque public channel ETB, Azkarate has affirmed that outlawed Batasuna must be legalised "now" to create this forum. "Every political party must be present in equal conditions, to voice freely their proposals and their projects for the future," she has emphasised.
