EITb: Economy and Culture

Here you have a couple of articles from EITb:

"Multiplier effect" of peace on Basque economic activity

Basque president Juan José Ibarretxe described the scenario created after the ETA ceasefire as a "marvellous opportunity", adding that "at this point in time there are elements of great hope that are pulling this society forward."

In the president's view, the new scenario would clearly have "a multiplier effect on all our economic, political and social activities." He also stressed that the Basque Country was "an increasingly attractive proposition", and after noting that "we have gone from choosing to being chosen", said that the Basques were "a world benchmark."

The Basque Country Museum

The Basque Country Museum, situated just a few metres from the historical oak tree in Gernika-Lumo, opened its doors in early 1991. Its mission was to offer a permanent exhibition to help visitors understand the meaning and the historical, political and cultural importance of the Basque Country.

The restoration of the Alegría Palace also completed the project to improve the area around the Gernika House of Assembly, also known as the Gernika monument site, and open it up to the public. The site contains such important monuments and buildings as: the gothic church of Santa María, the Gernika Archives, the Convent of Santa Clara and monumental sculptures by Henry Moore and Chillida.
