Double Standard, Again

Man, I never thought that the Ibarretxe Plan was going to raise so much interest in the Blogosphere.

I mean, most of the time news about the Basques go unnoticed, unless of course there was a terrorist attack which is when the media takes the chance to swap the terms and blame an entire nationality for the actions of a few.

The spin doctors are savvy, they immediatly linked the proposal by a politician elected by the majority of the people in the Basque Autonomous Community aimed at finding new spaces for the Basque society to develop and work towards its self determination in peace and within the frame of international law, with terrorism.

They have no other argument.

Anything and everything Basque is terrorism to them.

One blogger called me a terrorism supporter, you have witnessed his demise as a rabid Francoist right here.

He mentioned Arana, thinking that the media campaign to sanitize Franco's image had erased all records of the Fascist dictator from the collective memory of the international community.

He ran for help, he got another blogger to say that "all ethnic nationalisms are racist".

That other blogger tried to say that I was the one that is not open to dialogue, when in fact I keep a comment system at my blog to ensure dialogue, he of course forgot to mention that you do not start a dialogue by accusing the other person of supporting the killing of innocent people I asked that person one simple question, that person does not have the courage to answer it, because he knows he would be demolishing his own statement, he would have a lot of explaining to do, mainly because of his pet project at his blog.

Double standard, that is the problem with bullies like these two bloggers I'm talking about.

When it comes to denying the right of the self determination of a nation based on the modern concept of national integrity, remind them of Taiwan.

When it comes to denying the longing of the members of a nation without statehood to its self determination in order to preserve their culture, their traditions and their language, based on claims of racism, remind them of Israel.

They won't be able to reply to you, is a check mate on one move.

The way I see it, in a matter of a few days I exposed the way some sick people out there does everything they can to smear the image of all those societies that today are looking to liberate themselves from the shackles of the remnansts of those ugly practices known as imperialism and colonialism.

.... ... .

  1. Marcus, I support the surge of all the nations seeking self determination and even sovereignty in Europe, and unlike others, I think the concept of an European Union without borders does not clash with the desire of Basques, Catalans, Welsh, Scots, Brettones (to name some) for their own space, with their own voice.

I do oppose violence and terrorism, that is why I'm so surprised some people are being so negative about the Ibarretxe Plan, Ibarretxe is opting for peaceful negotation aimed at ending ETA's violence.

Do you mind if I make each one of your questions into a post so you and other people get acquainted with what I think?
